14 Like obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires that you formerly had in ignorance. 15 Instead, as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; 16 for it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:14-16

To be obedient to Jesus Christ (verse 2) is to not conform to the desires of our former ways of life. The reason we were enslaved and bounded by evil desires was out of ignorance. We were blinded and guided by the enemy of our souls. Now, as our eyes have been enlightened by the Holy Spirit, we are no more ignorant of the deception and destruction that comes with the evil desires of our flesh.

God accepted us in Christ and calls us his children. Like a Father, He calls his children to obey him and live a life that honors Him. God desires of his children to be holy in all that they do. He is interested in the practical living of the Christians. Christians should show purity of conduct and attitude of the Christians in their relations toward people and their daily vocations. It is by this act of obedience that we prove our genuineness of faith in Christ Jesus.
