Psalm 29:2
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendour of his holiness.
The Psalmist calls for praise and adoration to the glorious name of Yahweh. The word “ascribe” means “to give or bring.” The people are to bring to the LORD the glory and honour He deserves. The name of God is holy and powerful. His name calms storms and raging seas. The cosmos tremble at the name of God. Humans, too has to bring that attitude of awe and reverence of honour before the God of heaven and earth.
In the ancient past, the priest would array themselves with clean garments before entering into the presence of God. This imagery of outer holiness points to the inner disposition of purity and cleanliness as we worship the holy and perfect God. Holiness is what makes God’s people beautiful and pleasing to Him.
Prayer: Lord, may I revere your name as I come before you and clothed me with the splendour of your holiness and righteousness, Amen.
