He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life (21: 6).Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children (21:7). But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” (21:8).

Jesus holds our life and our future.  Through the sacrificial death on the cross of Golgotha, he satisfied the wrath of God. The judgment of God fell on Jesus. Now, those who put their trust in Him have eternal life. To those who are thirsty, Jesus promises the spring of the water of life. The thirst for sex, power and money does not satisfy. It has evaded many to loneliness, pain and suffering. The real life is in the person of Jesus Himself.

The water of life is given by Jesus Christ to all those who long for extraordinary life. The empowering, rejuvenating and new life is given to those who are spiritually thirsty. As Jesus gives this power to the Christians, they are victorious over sin, self and Satan. They will inherit the new Jerusalem where God dwells (Rev. 21:2). The lesson for us is to strive to be victorious over sins by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The next verse (v. 8) warns people of the second death. The list of the qualities mentioned in verse 8 is sobering and cannot be dodged away. These kind of people constantly indulge in this sort of sinful activities as a way of life. They are not hesitant to live immorally without the fear of God. However, they do not realize that they're heading towards destruction. Therefore, it is also a call to the Christians to speak against the immoral conduct and behavior of the lost world dying in sin. In speaking out against the wrongdoings, we show our true love for them.

Prayer: Lord, grant us your Holy Spirit to live a victorious Christian life. Help us perceive the dangers of engaging with sins and help us hate it with the intention of living a holy life for you-- and bring our lost brothers and sisters to see the light of the Gospel found in the Cross of Jesus Christ, Amen.
