17 If you invoke as Father the one who judges all people impartially according to their deeds, live in reverent fear during the time of your exile. 1 Peter 1:17
This verse reminds us of three things: a) There will be a judgment of all people at the end of the age. b) Our citizenship is from another country. c) We are in an alien, hostile world.
We live in a time-bound and earthly-bound culture where all sorts of ungodly and anti-Christian principles are glorified and magnified. The exilic image of the Christians makes it clear that it will be hard for true Christians to live in this world. They are away from their homeland and the true test of faith is seen in this short period of time. Even in this case, Christians ought to set their focus on that Day of judgment when all deeds will be exposed and laid bare before the eyes of God and men. Thereby, live a life of reverent fear to please and honor the King of Glory.
