Proverbs 1:7

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Fear is often taken negatively in terms of danger or threat. But there is a positive aspect of fear in that it prevents us from treading on deadly grounds. There is a fear called “the fear of the Lord” and this is pure and healthy. The fear of the Lord propels and checks the person from doing things that stands contrary to God’s law. Once this fear of God gets onto us, we are on the right path to finding true wisdom and knowledge.

The fear of the Lord guides and directs the person in the path of truth, justice and love. This fear is not earthly but heavenly. This fear instinctively reacts to do what’s right and to avoid the path of immorality and evil conduct. This fear of the Lord removes all other worldly demonic fears that pertain to weakness. This fear of the Lord gives confidence, boldness and strength to the weak, weary and frightened. That is why, Proverbs 1: 7 states that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Only fools will hate this “good fear” and will not want this “good fear” that brings healing and joy.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for pouring out the fear of the Lord in me. I want to walk in the path of your wisdom and instruction, amen.
