“And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skilful hands he led them.”
‘Integrity of heart’ and ‘skilful hands’ are two phrases that caught my attention. David was a shepherd boy who rose to become the second King of Israel. The word ‘shepherd’ is used to describe him as a man who led the people of God in Israel. In shepherding his people, he capably handled the position with honesty and proficiency.
I believe that integrity comes with accountability to God and men and that too, in small insignificant areas of one’s life. David proved faithful in the years of serving family and the king with integrity of heart. The skilfulness of his hands will have taken him years and years of practice and training. It takes discipline and hard work to achieve the category of skilfulness. David passed the test in both categories and therefore, was a successful leader and shepherd.
Prayer: Lord, Help me be diligent and disciplined in my profession and calling to serve you and the people efficiently, Amen.
